It takes approximately 200 to 250 hours of work to prepare for FRM Part I. Regular preparation over 4 to 6 months is recommended to assimilate the quantitative and theoretical concepts.
There are no academic or professional prerequisites to register for and take the exams (Parts I and II). However, to obtain the final certification after successfully completing the exams, you will need to demonstrate two years of professional experience in a risk management-related field.
The CFA is a generalist qualification focused on investment management and financial analysis. The FRM is highly specialized in risk management (credit, market, operational, liquidity). They are complementary, but the FRM is the gold standard for risk management professions.
